A story of dark political secrets and a personal struggle for belonging
In the middle of the Atacama Desert there’s a small lake that Chileans call The Eye of the Sea. Some say this lake is bottomless, and any truth submerged there will never be known. However, in the fullness of time, and by fate or accident, fragments float up to catch the light.
Elena is privileged and could care less about Chile’s inequities; all she needs are the pills she buys on the street and perhaps a fleeting affair with a stranger. Bladimir, on the other hand, was born between the fold-up mattresses on the margins. He has a score to settle.
After a chance encounter in a park, they lure one another into a game of cat and mouse, during which Elena occasionally emerges from her tangled memories and Bladimir begins to confront his long held beliefs.
When Bladimir finds a diary hidden in plain sight, fragments of the truth begin to emerge. Selecting the tangled threads of Elena’s family’s past, he weaves them into his own actions to form a broader picture of narco crime and political corruption, telling the story that was never meant to be told.
Capturing the lives of people from contrasting socioeconomic backgrounds, The Eye of the Sea exposes what may have been the driving force behind Chile’s 2019 violent uprisings.
The book is for readers who are curious about foreign affairs and diverse cultures and who are intrigued by clandestine networks that influence events.
